Job Summary and Mission
This position contributes to Starbucks success in the following ways:
The individual will be a member of a group of VMWare and Windows Server Sr. Systems Engineers and support the design of large scale mission-critical solutions, system automation, system management/monitoring, technical standards, security standards and configuration management.
The individual will collaborate with cross functional teams to design and gather business requirements for large scale projects
The individual will also be on point of escalation for day-to-day support for mission-critical systems on ESX or on Windows Server. This is a rotation based escalation support.
This role is critical for the support of our growing VMware and VDI environment, as well as our Global Application projects that will be installed on VM or Windows based on stated requirements.
The individual will work with management on strategic directions and initiatives for the Enterprise VMware and Windows Server Team. The individual will participate with scheduled vendor meeting to review and discuss technical issues, assess and document vendor's recommended changes, SLAs, process and support improvement.
Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
- Position involves serving as a Senior Systems Engineer for VMware and Windows Server Global Technical Operating Systems
- Proposes and implements medium to large scale system deployment. Specifically around VDI, Windows Server and the supporting server/chassis infrastructure.
- Analyzes, acquires, installs, modifies and supports ESX and Windows Server operating systems.
- Conducts highly complex systems automation/scripting and systems support activities, including system integration and monitoring.
- Creates and maintains documentation of systems processes and procedures.
- Resolves complex user requests referred by junior administrators.
- Work with Security team to ensure system configurations is in compliance with security policies and controls standards.
- Works with customers to identify business requirements and suggests service improvements and/or new technology directions.
- Required duties include after-hours changes and an on-call incident management rotation.
Qualifications
- Required proficiency in system automation, Window Server 2003, 2008, ESX 4.x & 5.0
- Experience building and maintaining ESX 3, 4, and 5 virtual infrastructure including supporting components such as VSphere, ESX Top, and LabManager in an enterprise business environment.
- Proven skills deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows server through 2008 R2 including advanced item such as clustering.
- In depth knowledge of server hardware, networking, enterprise storage, and other components that support a virtual infrastructure
- Experience deploying and maintaining virtual infrastructure monitoring solutions, including storage and host health monitoring, and capacity management.

- Experience using diagnostic, monitoring, problem and change management tools - 6 years
- Experience working within a project management framework - 6 years
- Experience with build out of data center server infrastructure (chassis, blades and stand-alone servers)
- Experience with Windows Server Lifecycle management (e.g. Patching, imaging, and HW refresh)
- Deep experience in troubleshooting and resolving critical production issues on Windows Server and ESX

- Knowledge of a variety of operating systems and technologies, databases, problem management, diagnostic and monitoring tools
