Role: - AIX System Administrator - # 90
Location: Albany, NY
Duration: 24 Months
Job Description:
Staff will perform the full range of AIX system administration tasks including, but not limited to:
- Support and maintain AIX 5.3/6.1/7.1 environment, including installation and management of Oracle/Weblogic/Websphere/Apache application server or middleware software;
- Support and maintain virtual servers (LPARs) and Virtual I/O (VIO) servers;
- Work with teams of application programmers, DBAs, and system architects to create solutions to meet business goals;
- Develop and participate in the adherence of standards, processes, and procedures;
- Perform off-hours (evening or weekend work) as needed for emergency or maintenance tasks;
- Provide support for internal users and external data exchange partners;
- Perform optimization and tuning activities, including capacity planning, tracking historical usage, trending future resource needs, and modifying resource allocations as needed;
- Plan, schedule, and perform operating system software and firmware upgrades;
- Modify and maintain internal and external DNS;
- Work with data communications and security staff to modify and maintain Cisco firewall rules as needed for approved access requests;
- Work with EMC SAN administrator to request, allocate and monitor SAN storage pools;
- Troubleshoot network connectivity and access issues, including using packet captures and other diagnostic tools;
- Install and maintain EMC Networker client backup software;
- Writing shell or Perl scripts for administrative tasks or data transfers;
- Maintain documentation related to system configuration changes;
- Provides recommendations on technical architecture;
- Provides hands-on training and mentoring for other administrative staff.
Mandatory Requirement:
Candidates should have experience in:
- Server back up and security
- Performance tuning and capacity planning
- Operations and troubleshooting
- Understanding of network and distributed computing concepts
Candidates should have at least 84 months experience, and at least one of the following should apply:
- Minimum of 84 months of AIX or any Unix administration
- Minimum of 84 months writing shell or Perl scripts to automate functions or transfer data;
- Minimum of 84 months managing SAN storage allocations on AIX/Unix;.
- Minimum of 60 months of AIX administration, 42 months of which must have been during last 48 months
- Minimum of 60 months of VIO administration
- Minimum 60 months as DNS administrator
- Minimum 36 months experience with AIX 6.1
- Minimum 6 months experience with AIX 7.1
- Minimum 6 months experience with EMC networker
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
