Job Title: Enterprise Service Architect
Duration: 6 Months

Location: Atlanta, GA
Interview Type: Phone Hire

Job Description:

The Linux service catalog effort will lay the ground work for IRS Platform as a Service (PaaS) approach that will enable IRS to deliver application platform functionality (computing platform, and a solution stack) as a service. This service catalog will serve as vehicle that the Enterprise Operations (EOps) division of IT uses to articulate the services and solutions available to its Line of Business users. The service catalog will consist of carefully selected set of standardized infrastructure and platform services available for consumption.

The overall objective of this effort is to develop and define service catalog items focused on server builds to employ significant standardization across the various business system applications within in the IRS data centers. Instead of a customized request for each application service, standard deployment templates will be defined that represent various configurations of an application. This type of standardization will not only lead to consistent and repeatable provisioning processes but can help reduce the human error factor when approaching each application deployment as an isolated, customized event. Standardization will also help drive consistency across the server farms within the data center and will allow IRS to streamline the server request and provisioning process.

The Linux Service Catalog will be a living document that will be kept up to date by the Enterprise Service (ES) organization. The initial scope of this effort is to define service catalog items to support the following core applications platforms:

  • JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (5.x & 6.x)

  • Oracle Single DB (11.x g)

  • Oracle RAC (11.x g)

This effort will consist of the three work steam and will comprise of the following tasks:

  • Work Stream 1 – JBoss EAP Service Standards

  • Work Stream 2 – Oracle Single DB Service Standards

  • Work Stream 3 – Oracle RAC Service Standards

Tasks

Description

Requirements

(Application Assessment)

The scope of this sub-task is to assess various IRS business system applications to identify the design and deployment patterns that are being used in the enterprise. Identify the application topology and the infrastructure and platform services, the basic building blocks, required to support these topologies, for example: Load balancing, clustering for HA or Failover, Disaster Recovery, etc.

Task Output:

  • Application Environment Questionnaire (Completed)

Application Architecture

The scope of this sub-task is to define the solution architecture that satisfies the various usage requirements for customer-requested application services for Development, Test, and Prod environments.

Within a layer, different design patterns exist to provide solutions to different problems. The objective of this task is to define standard patterns to support services such as Load balancing, clustering for HA or Failover, Disaster Recovery, etc.

Task Outputs:

  • JBoss and Oracle Solution Architecture that supports:

    • Single, Two, Three, and N-tier application deployments.

    • Platform services such as: Clustering, Load Balancing, Messaging, Disaster Recovery, etc.

Infrastructure Architecture & Deployment Configurations

The scope of this task is to define the infrastructure architecture and deployment configuration standards for customer-requested application services for Development, Test, and Prod environments.

Standardized deployment configurations to support a spectrum of workload deployments (Class of Service): Small, Medium, and Large, etc.

Task Outputs:

  • Service Catalog Matrix for each platform

  • Logical and Physical Infrastructure Architecture

  • Deployment configurations to support Small, Medium, Large size deployments.
