US CONSULTING - CONTRACT Urgent Need Mainframe Performance Analyst @@ Bloomington, IL

Position: Mainframe Performance Analyst

Location: Bloomington, IL

Duration: 24+ months

Interview: Phone Hire

 

 

Position 1:

This person's primary responsibilities will focus on the IBM z/OS platform,  The performance analyst provides performance related analysis design, and consulting in the creation and support of State Farm's information technology infrastructure and systems.  The overall objective of a performance analyst is to ensure that the systems in use at State Farm are properly sized and tuned to provide our business customers with adequate but not excessive systems resources to meet day-to-day demands while providing an acceptable level of service.

 

Skills and Expertise:

 

  - Knowledge of the vairous hardware components associated with IBM host systems. (required)

 

  - Knowledge of IBM z/OS operating system software and sub-systems (eg DB2,CICS,IMS, MVS, USS, and Web)

 

- Prior experience with analysis and reporting of application resource utilization and performance. (required)

 

- Knowledge and working experience with the following tools: Mainview(IMS,DB2 & CICs) TDS, BMC accounting reports (similar to IBM Performance expert accounting reports), strobe and RMF. (Desired)

 

 

Primary Tasks Include:

 

  - Apply knowledge of the various hardware components associated with IBM host systems.

 

  - Apply knowledge of IBM z/OS operating system software and sub-systems (e.g. DB2, CICS, IMS, MVS, USS, and WebSphere.)

 

  - Utilize the various IBM z/OS and sub-system performance tools.

 

  - Participate in State Farm Infrastructure Impact Assessment process.

 

  - Predict the impact of change by test-driving tuning alternatives and sizing server configurations.

 

  - Assist with establishing performance requirements.

 

  - Assist in development of performance test plans.

 

  - Setup collection tools to gather performance measurements.

 

  - Analyze systems for system level performance tuning and load balancing opportunities.

 

 

Position 2:

General Distributed Performance analyst

 

Analyst needs to have experience in Unix, Linux and Websphere.

 

The primary tasks include:

 

·         Apply knowledge of the various hardware components associated with x86.

 

·         Apply knowledge of Linux operating system.

 

·         Apply knowledge of Capacity Planning, WebSphere Performance, and Linux Performance.

 

·         Apply knowledge of HP Diagnostics as well as BMC Performance Assurance.

 

·         Apply knowledge of vFabric Hyperic

 

·         Apply knowledge of SPLUNK

 

·         Analyze and report on WebSphere, and Linux performance data.

 

·         Participate in performance testing of WebSphere applications (both new and modifications to existing ones) to determine if they meet the performance requirement of the end user.

 

·         Participate in performance testing of applications that have been deployed to the Linux platform.

 

·         Predict the impact of tuning alternatives.

 

·         Assist with establishing performance requirements.

 

·         Assist in development of performance test plans.

 

·         Setup collection tools to gather performance measurements.

 

·         Analyze systems for system level performance tuning and load balancing opportunities.

 

·         Provide decision support information to projects.

 

·         Attend project meetings and provide testing status to projects.

 

·         Participate in performance walkthroughs and reviews.

 

·         Help project teams understand performance concepts and performance testing.

 

·         Experience in JAVA development is useful when troubleshooting problems.

 

 

DB2 Distributed Performance analyst

 

The technical skills required to be successful in this position include:

 

·         Identify the actions that DB2 processes perform on AIX

 

·         Interpret DB2 administration and diagnostic logs

 

·         Explain the DB2 process model

 

·         Enable DB2 health, performance and configuration monitoring

 

·         Enable DB2 event monitoring and snapshots

 

·         Calculate performance statistics

 

·         Familiar with a broad range of DB2 performance tools

 

·         Familiar with IBM Optim Database Administrator and IBM Optim Performance Manager

 

·         Assist with tuning for optional performance in all environments

 

·         Provide subject matter expertise to projects, when required on UNIX WebSphere issues.

 

·         Analyze DB2 Activity

 

·         Skilled in interpreting the Notify log

 

·         Skilled in interpreting the diagnostic log

 

·         Knowledge of and ability to obtain DB2 registry variables

 

·         Knowledge of configurable online parameters

 

·         Knowledge of the DB2 processes and their functions

 

·         Ability to capture and analyze EXPLAIN/VISUAL EXPLAIN information

 

·         Ability to enable snapshots and event monitoring

 

·         Ability to use the DB2 Control Center

 

·         Knowledge of Health Monitor using the Health Center in DB2

 

·         Ability to use DB2 informational tools (e.g, db2pd, db2mtrk, db2top)

 

·         Understanding of storage options for data (SMS, DMS, automatic)

 

·         Knowledge of tablespaces, indexes, and partitioning capabilities (e.g., Table partitioning, hash partitioning, MDC (Multidimensional clustering)

 

·         Knowledge to identify when to use IMPORT vs. LOAD

 

·         Ability to examine the contents of the System Catalog tables

 

·         Ability to use DB2Move, DB2Look and DB2Batch

 

·         Knowledge of the functionality of the DB2 Advisors (db2advis utility)

 

               •      Knowledge of recovery, logging, authentication, and authorizations

 

Position 3:

 

This opening is for PPEM Analyst:  

 

The ability to support the infrastructure for Proactive Performance Engineering and Modeling by using a proactive and holistic approach to provide the Capacity Management disciplines of performance and capacity services to applications from an end-to-end perspective. The intent is to facilitate applications, Capacity Management related decision support, risk identification, risk analysis, and risk mitigation activities. This is achieved through the combined use of proactive engagement, business and system volume metrics, predictive analysis techniques (including modeling), guidance, and consulting for applications and infrastructure.

 

Skills and Expertise:

 

·          Strong oral and verbal communication skills.

 

·          Knowledge of Web-based distributed client server systems.

 

·          Modeling using Microsoft Excel, OPNET, Best/1, ExtendSim or equivalents.

 

·          Data analysis using Microsoft Excel, SPSS, or equivalents.

 

·          Solid foundation in statistical and mathematical analysis and interpretation of data.

 

·          Ability to analyze network traces.

 

·          Soft skills required to deliver, with confidence, recommendations to technical or management personnel.

 

The primary tasks include:

 

·          Create mitigation strategies and document rationale for course of action.

 

·          Develop workload models for sizing the project or application demand for resources needed to meet business requirements

 

·          Develop systems models for predicting end-to-end response time, potential performance risk and bottlenecks and/or test alternatives for feasibility.

 

·          Analyze performance data for calibrating system models.

 

·          Design model experiments consistent with what-if scenarios.

 

·          Document project deliverables: Statement of Risk; Workload Models, System Models, and Experiment Results.
