Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Business Analyst is responsible for the following:

  • Initiates/conducts requirements scoping to establish a preliminary understanding and scope of the project
  • Prepares a requirements plan to identify the resources required to support the requirements phase of the SDLC
  • Acquires project sponsor/key stakeholder approval of the scope and requirements plan deliverables
  • Conducts requirements discovery sessions to elicit business requirements from subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Develops and analyzes use cases for completeness and pulls statements of requirements from them
  • Prepares business requirements document for review
  • Conducts peer reviews to enhance the quality and consistency of requirements
  • Conducts SME reviews to verify with the project stakeholders and SMEs that the requirements are accurate and reflect their business need within the established scope of the project.
  • Conducts development reviews to solicit input from SDLC downstream consumers on the defined requirements with regard to difficulty/feasibility and associated development effort.
  • Performs requirements prioritization of groups of requirements and acquire high-level estimates for developing the parts of the solution for each requirements group.
  • Acquires formal approval from the project sponsor of the requirements
  • Creates a traceability matrix to be used throughout the SDLC to track requirements through design, development, and testing
  • Coordinates User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

  • Identifies sources of requirements, possible interfaces, and affected lines of business based on high-level process descriptions or scenarios in order to understand the stakeholder need.
  • When gathering and validating requirements, recognizes inconsistencies and gaps in a business process description and works with the stakeholder to clarify and simply describe complex processes.

 

2.    Change Leadership

  • Understands the need for change; demonstrates a tolerance for ambiguity; and a positive attitude toward the change.
  •  Energizes and alerts a group of team members or stakeholders to the need for specific changes in the way things are done when gathering requirements. 

 

3.    Facilitation/Requirements Elicitation

·         Uses questioning and modeling tools and techniques to discover and resolve ambiguities and discrepancies in requirements.

·         Maintains the group focus, leads the discussion toward stated goals and manages the group dynamics in facilitation requirements gathering sessions.

 

4.    Requirements Planning and Management

  • Creates a plan for the requirements management effort according to the recommended practices of CareSource.
  • Resolves schedule, planning, resource and scope issues; and estimates the impact of change requests on timelines, budgets, resources and project scope.

 

5.    Customer Relationship Management

·         Works with LOB to define business objectives, process, and requirements.

·         Builds, sustains, and leverages relationships with persons within his/her area of immediate responsibility when gathering, validating and approving requirements.

·         Helps stakeholders understand and agree to requirements.

 

6.    Consensus and Agreement Building

·         Remains impartial in requirements discussions.  Confirms understanding by all parties involved when validating requirements. Impartially leads a session to prioritize requirements.

 

7.    Professional Knowledge

·         Demonstrates an understanding of: the stakeholder's business culture and priorities; the need for different modeling techniques used when gathering requirements; the corporate standards for documentation; methods for prioritizing requirements; and tools for tracking requirements.

 

8.    Verbal and Written Communication

·         Speaks effectively in requirements discovery sessions and meetings.   Takes measures to ensure understanding has occurred.  Asks questions to clarify or discern implied or poorly expressed meanings.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

·         BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience

Experience:

·         5 - 10 years of experience managing requirements.

·         Overall knowledge and understanding of IT environment
