We're looking for an excellent developer to join our core team of the best and the brightest - someone who's genuinely passionate about building high-performance, highly disruptive software.
This a rare opportunity to have a key role in creating something truly innovative from the ground up - we are currently working on v1.0 of our platform to deliver to our first clients. The successful candidate will be an extremely talented software engineer focused on high-scale web application development in Java and Scala to help us build out our offering.
We have assembled a small team of experienced business and technology experts and need one more developer to round out the initial team.
Required skills
CS/EE degree (advanced degree preferred).
Significant Java development experience or comparable full stack web-development framework, preferably not solely corporate standard J2EE.
Expert development skills and design patterns including best practices and in-depth knowledge of core libraries in more than one framework.
Strong SQL knowledge. Strong knowledge of Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL database and related Java ORMs like Hibernate/JPA.
Ability to move across layers of web-stack - front end, controllers and data access.
First-hand experience developing thin client applications (HTML / CSS / JavaScript).
Nice-to-haves Familiarity with Scala.
Hands-on usage of a dynamically typed programming language other than JavaScript (Perl/Python/Ruby).
Experience with non-VM languages like C/C++.
Experience with Test-driven or other Agile development practices.
Previous experience on small high-performance teams doing business-focused solutions, product development or full lifecycle development consulting. Knowledge of financial markets, in particular the bond business.
Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems.
Hands on experience with Regular Expressions.

Main Purpose of the Role
The IT Senior Web Programmer is involved in the hands-on development, maintenance and enhancement of Virgin America's award winning website, self-service kiosks, Intranet, partner integrations, staff travel and other critical airline applications. The web programmer is responsible for understanding the technical requirements from the functional team and developing a solution with the lead architect and other programmers.
Main Areas of Responsibility
* Work with architect, PMO, BSA and operations teams to develop software solutions for the commercial website, mission critical applications and all other partner integration projects.
* Design and implement solutions to satisfy nonfunctional requirements like scalability, usability, maintainability and supportability
* Perform performance testing, enabling timely and quality project implementation.
* Validate end-to-end technical implementation of solutions and prepare runbooks for the operation teams for support.
* Work with vendors and third party solution providers and understand integration touch points and technical details.
* Provide technical support to operational team to implement and support production deployment of the software solutions
Professional Experience Required
* 5+ years of hands-on object oriented software development experience in a broad range of technologies.
* 5+ years of professional, multi-tier development experience in Java, Struts and Web Services
* 5+ years of professional, multi-tier development experience of software products using JAVA
* 3+ years of professional, design and development experience in working with enterprise databases like ORACLE, SQLServer and/or MYSQL
* 3+ years programming experience data modeling and SQL scripting
* 3+ years of hands-on experience in XML-based technologies (DTDs, schema, XSLT, XHTML)
* Hands-on experience with application servers like Tomcat, JBoss or Weblogic
Skills & Abilities Required
* JAVA, J2EE, JSP, JavaScript, Struts, experience in building applications using tomcat and apache servers
* XML Web Services, XML schemas, XSLT, SOAP
