US CONSULTING - CONTRACT Urgent Mid level UNIX/AIX Admin Need in Mountain View, CA, Rate: $40/hr Max, 1 Year

Handle 'simple' Service Center incidents: including: High CPU usage, High swap usage, file system alerts, disk full situations and the like.

Userid maintenance add, delete, modify Commands: useradd, usermod, userdel

Knowledge of how to create, modify and remove file systems  ufs, vxfs Commands: newfs, mkfs

Printer queue maintenance - add,delete, modify

Knowledge of basic volume management: VxVM commands: vxprint, vxassist

Rudimentary shell scripting: Ability to read and interpret a ksh script

Basic unix performance commands

Proficient in the vi editor           

Familiarity with ssh, sftp, etc, format

Copy files and directories

Move and rename files and directories

Create and remove files and directories

Use symbolic links: command: ln -s

Perform basic process and job control

Archive files and create archives files

Perform remote file transfers: ftp, rcp, sftp, scp

Perform mounts and unmounts

Identify boot programmable read-only memory (PROM) fundamentals

Use basic boot PROM commands: printenv, banner, show-disks, show-nets

Identify the system's boot device

Create and remove custom device aliases

View and change nonvolatile random access memory (NVRAM) parameters from the shell

Interrupt an unresponsive system

Basic networking protocols and commands: ping, traceroute

Must know how to maintain a crontab

 

Working knowledge of Sun Cluster or Veritas Cluster (VCS) - commands: scstat, scrgadm, scsetup, hastatus, hagrp, hares

Working knowledge of HP MC/Serviceguard - commands: cmviewcl, cmruncl, cmhaltcl, cmmodpkg

Sever security hardening: SST

Volume Management: Ability to build, maintain, remove, mirror logical volumes using Veritas (VxVM), Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) and HP LVM

List devices

Reconfigure devices

Perform hard disk partitioning: format command

Manage disk labels

Create a new ufs file system

Check the file system by using the fsck command

Resolve file system inconsistencies

Monitor file system usage: df command

Have an understanding of RAID levels

Knowledge of Opsware: OS provisioning, patching, product installation

Working knowledge of DNS administration

Ability to setup NTP

Networking: add routes, configure NICs

Administer sendmail

Perform OS installs: Solaris, HP-UX, AIX. Perform boot from network device

Perform OS patching:  via Opsware, patchadd, swinstall, etc..

Mentor Level 1 staff

Knowledge of Attached storage options

EMC: Powerpath, BCVs,

HDS: ShadowImage

Emulex HBAs: update drivers, firmware, lpfc.conf

In Depth knowledge of Solaris patching strategies

In Depth knowledge of Solaris package creation and usage

Detailed knowledge of Sun Cluster or Veritas Cluster (VCS), HP SG, HACMP.

Engineer HA Cluster implementations for Sun Cluster, VCS, MC/Service Guard, HA-CMP.

Assist in engineering/planning tech refreshes for clients

Mentor level 2 folks

Ability to draft detailed instructions for Levels 1 and 2 Staff to execute

Ability to lead on incident management calls.

Full competency in a minimum of two UNIX operating systems with current certification in standard supported versions: Solaris 9-10, AIX 5X, HP-UX 11, LINUX - Red Hat 3-5, SUSE 9

Proficiency in use of the following High-Availability software suites with efforts to attain certification in progress:

Veritas Cluster server

HP Service Guard

Sun Cluster

AIX HACMP

Red Hat Cluster

RAC Cluster

SUSE Cluster

Proficiency in installation, configuration and testing of the following software products:

Storage management software – EMC, VERITAS

Backup-recovery software – TSM, LEGATO, NETBACKUP, DATA PROTECTOR

Monitoring tools – CA, BMC, TNG, HPOM

Performance and capacity monitoring-reporting tools

Samba

OS specific packages SSH, SSL, Utility Tools

TCP/IP

Web application tools

Database configuration Knowledge

Knowledge of kernel configuration and system-level tuning of all operating system components, as well as general application level interface settings.

Working knowledge of UNIX security configuration and audit requirements:

Ability to install and configure security tools, review reports and mitigate security audit issues and system configuration gaps.

Knowledge of current SARBINES OXLEY requirements.

Knowledge of SFTP, SSL, SSH, Prohibited NEWORK SERVICES, and firewall rules configuration.

Full competency in incident and problem resolution skills, including start to finish service restoration and full system recovery skills

Ability to determine and communicate corrective action requirements and accurately develop and document a root cause analysis/RCA paper (technical writing skills are required).

Demonstrated skills in scripting in KSH, BASH, Perl, CSH and Bourne

Demonstrated knowledge in current ITIL Foundation in Request, Change, Release, Incident and Problem Management

Ability to communicate slowly, confidently and clearly during outage, crisis and application planning conference calls with clients and vendors in attendance.
