Job Description:
Responsible for promoting the highest level of quality in all technology releases by managing the end to end release process. The Release Manager must work effectively with Development, QA, Change and Configuration Management to coordinate, plan, and oversee the daily tasks essential for a successful deployment of release code into the production environment.
RELEASE PLANNING:
Ø Validate that only approved features are contained within a release by verifying projects against the approved project list from the PMO. Similarly, drive the prioritization of Problem Management tickets assuring those with the highest severity take precedence in the current release cycle.
Ø Schedule and conduct status meetings to facilitate communication between the various release stakeholders. (see Meeting Guideline addendum)
Ø Obtain accurate status on all features. Identify at risk features as well as features that are non-compliant based on release phase and determine root cause. Where applicable, assign ownership to the appropriate feature or environment owners and obtain daily progress updates.
Ø Drive to resolution any non feature related obstacle or roadblock preventing the successful progression of both features and the overall release.
Ø Enforce Release Verification entrance and exit criteria by ensuring all required documentation has been approved. Escalate any missing requirement and issues surrounding release readiness at key milestones.
RELEASE DELIVERY:
Ø Coordinate with the respective discipline owners (M/W, AppServices, etc.) to reduce the overall outage time in QA, Pre-prod and Production by coordinating any planned work and subsequent downtime the respective teams may have.
Ø Ensure that all code changes for the QA, Pre-prod and Production environments are properly coordinated, scheduled, approved and implemented via approved implementation plans.
Ø Engage with project teams during the planning phase to scope out the best use of the testing environments in an effort to ensure successful promotion of project features on time and within budget.
Ø Serve as the gatekeeper for all release related build requests. Coordinate all requests with Configuration Management and escalate any requested builds that have not been enacted.
RELEASE PROMOTION:
Ø Create Unicenter ticket for each production release. Upon completion of reviews, attach approved implementation plan to the ticket, create summary card and email approvers ready for approval notification with summary card attached.
Ø Identify, schedule and coordinate overall resource requirements associated with release implementation and installation.
Ø Create and maintain the integrity of all base implementation plans needed for the promotion of code into the QA, Pre-prod and Production environments
Ø Ensure the thoroughness and accuracy of release related production implementation plans by chairing implementation plan reviews. Validate all necessary implementation plans are in play based on the specific release content.
Ø Direct the overall release installation by supervising the release bridge line and ensuring that implementers follow the approved release implementation plan.
Ø Oversee the resolution of all implementation related issues by identifying owners, obtaining additional resources needed to effect the solution and facilitating the removal of any obstacles delaying the fix from being applied.
Ø Communicate release status at key checkpoints and escalate any customer facing issues as well as issues causing potential delay in start up to Sr. Management and appropriate release stakeholders.
Ø Provide post-release support by lending expertise in driving to closure any release related incident that may have occurred. This may include providing implementation plan templates, coordinating necessary builds and/or creating Unicenter tickets.
Ø Ensure closeout of Unicenter ticket by ensuring all PVT task have been completed in QC and updating the PVT Completed field in Unicenter.
RELEASE METRICS/REPORTING:
Ø Identify adverse trends in quality, efficiency or risk and escalate to appropriate owners in an effort to drive continuous process improvement gains throughout the release cycle.
Ø Utilize key performance indicators to generate and communicate a monthly release scorecard to key release stakeholders and Sr. Management.
Ø Produce monthly Release Announcement targeted for the Business Areas which communicate key functionality delivered into production each month.
ADMINISTRATION:
Ø Manage the adherence and quality of all Administrative responsibilities according to prescribed timelines including:
· Performance Development Process
· Timesheets
· Information Security Training and Acceptable Use Policy submissions
