Job Title: Java Developer 
Location: Phoenix, AZ, US
Type: Contract (6 months with likely extension)
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs hands-on software development & testing
  • Functions as a core member of an agile team driving user story analysis & elaboration, design and development of software applications, testing & builds automation tools
  • Performs ongoing refactoring of code & drives continuous improvement in code structure & quality. The engineer uses visualization and other techniques to fast track concepts
  • Contributes to writing code, api specs, conducting code reviews & testing in ongoing sprints or doing proof of concepts/automation tools
  • Expected to be able to coach 2-3 Engineers on the software development environment, code reviews, and best practices within the department and enterprise wide architectural standards
  • Owns a list of technical requirements that need to be included in product backlog based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects & issues
  • Liaisons with technical product manager to help manage prioritization of items in product backlog for ongoing sprints
  • May be assigned to a specific platform/product permanently or be part of a dynamic resource pool that gets assigned to projects as they come up
  • Typically spends 75%+ of his time writing code, api specs, conducting code reviews & testing in ongoing sprints or doing proof of concepts/automation tool
  • Identifies opportunities to adopt innovative technologies
 
Qualifications
 
This high energy Senior Developer must have:
  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile or other rapid application development methods
  • Demonstrated experience with object-oriented design and coding skills across a variety of platforms (JAVA, SOA/Web Services, REST API, HTML/HTML5, CSS3, XML, JQuery, JSON, Ajax, JavaScript)
  • Experience with responsive web design (RWD)
  • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, message queuing, and relational/XML databases
  • Ability to effectively communicate across third parties, technical and business product managers on solution design
  • Ability to think abstractly and deal with ambiguous/under-defined problems
  • Ability to enable business capabilities through innovation
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and takes pride in how fast they develop working software
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience, is preferred
  • Experience with payments/travel technology and industry is a plus
