Job Description:
The Senior QA Performance Engineer is responsible for creating and executing performance testing strategies for a wide range of applications. This position requires an individual with a programming background, analytical abilities and multitasking skills to work in a collaborative environment towards resolving complex problems. Candidates should be able to function effectively in a self-directed and creative way with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects. Excellent communication skills, an energetic and positive attitude, strong team skills and an ability to learn fast are a must. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, writing, debugging and executing code used in automated and performance testing efforts as well as leading and reviewing the work efforts of other QA Performance Engineers.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Plan approach and test strategy for performance testing
• Maintain existing scripts for the purpose of reusability and performance regression testing
• Identify workflows and system characteristics to be performance tested and ensure they are reflected in the test scope
• Demonstrate expert level knowledge of Load Runner and other performance testing tools
• Identify type of performance tests needed based on business and technical requirements and build consensus with project team and business
• Review manual test team's strategies, plans and cases for software releases that may impact performance testing
• Define benchmarks from business and technical documents
• Write, debug and execute code used in performance testing efforts
• Conduct performance tests, analysis and present test results, metrics and summary to facilitate go/no go decisions on release stability
• Analyze test results to identify issues, and work with architects and development to suggest improvements and drive issues to resolution.
• Review functional workflow and technical design specifications to provide input on increasing robustness, performance, and scalability of the product suite.
• Work with team to ensure quality and standardization of performance test plans, scripts, and results
• Build baselines for future reference
• Build repository of historical performance runs for the purpose of plotting trends over time
• Present test approach to project team and management as needed
• Respond quickly and effectively to production performance issues and taking responsibility for seeing those performance issues through resolution
• Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the assigned application(s), functional area(s) or project(s) Participate in project planning including estimating scope of work
• Work closely with the automation test team
• Demonstrate ownership and accountability through self directed task management
• Review project documentation for all assigned projects to ensure that the project requirements are clearly defined Communicate performance results in appropriate manner to executives and project team members, suggest any applicable changes when needed
• Contribute to the project success in a team environment while simultaneously completing individual tasks and goals
• Share knowledge by effectively documenting work
• Communicate effectively to the team throughout the development process
• Mentor and train less experienced performance test engineers
• Work on functional projects if needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5+ years of performance testing experience in a large-scale environment
• Advanced level of experience / certification with Mercury's LoadRunner. Experience using at least two LoadRunner protocols.
• Experience writing parameterized and data driven scripts
• Knowledge and experience in a variety of relational DBMS data structures; including 4+ years experience writing SQL statements to extract data from databases (Oracle preferred)
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, networking topology, routers, switches
• Solid understanding of all phases of SDLC is required
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement
• Experience with source code control systems
• 4+ years QA methodology and software testing experience
• Knowledge of functional automation testing and tools.
• Demonstrated experience in organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating one's own work, and ability to multi-task successfully
• Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple, diverse projects simultaneously
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to write clear and concise technical documents
• Excellent troubleshooting and reasoning skills
• Expert ability to analyze and interpret technical data
• Expert ability to identify system bottlenecks, architectural risks, and issues
• Experience with business support software applications such as MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Visio, Visual SourceSafe) required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
2+ years of application development experience
